Baby Hat and Blanket

For my friends Bob and Stephanie's baby, due in February. The hat was made on a small circle loom with a flower on top. The center of the blanket was made on a circle loom. The border is made of two rounds of double crochet stitches, one round of V double crochet stitches, one round of single crochet then chain three stitches, and one round of four double crochet with chain three in between per loop. The pattern in the center was done with single crochets in an argyle pattern.

Winner!

I won a quote contest over here at Jen's Lucy Blue Studio blog. I wanted to share the link b/c she has awesome stuff, is full of local Austin goodness, and is a friend to boot. That last fact, she tells me, had none to do with my collecting the winnings.

Christening Rose Afghan

This is my christening rose afghan. Am calling it a "throw" because it is only 31 x 40 inches. Adapted from this pattern for color and difficulty.

DP-BBQ

Courtney sent us Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce (made not in Texas, but Chicago, Illinois-- blaspheme!), and it is fantastic! However, if you want to microwave it on top of chicken (which I recommend), cover with plastic wrap or suffer the above consequences.

Flower Afghan

These are the pieces of the new blanket I'm making. The flowers are pink, red, and maroon. The blanket will be 5 squares x 7 squares and is based on a pattern from "Join-As-You-Go Afghans" called "Christening Rose" by Maria Merlino, adapted to my beginner crocheter abilities.

Cool Zone

This is a picture I took while leaving Houston, the first year I lived in Texas (2005). There's this great ferris wheel at a carnival called the "Cool Zone". Or at least, that's what I've surmised from the picture once I got home. One day, I'll get to the top of that ferris wheel.

Squared

Trying to decide what my next crocheted blanket will be. I think I want to do squares of flowers. These are two ideas I've had. I have been looking at many patterns online and then adapting (and guessing) the design to my skill level.

Completed Project

I have finished my first crocheted blanket. It took about 5 months on-and-off to do the whole thing. Made by combining 2-, 4-, 6-, 8-, and 12-row double crocheted squares. More crochet crafts to come. Expect them as gifts.

En Route to the Dog Park

There's only one fenced-in dog park in the area, Norwood Dog Park. It's almost 1/2 an hour away from home, all the way down in South Austin, but Fred enjoys a good car ride as well, so it's win-win.

Leaving Palm Beach

This is the view from my brother's car as we left West Palm Beach. I like this because it means we had just been at the beach, for hours hot and sun-soaked and relaxed. Perfect. Windows down, salt and sand stuck to my hair. Freckles prickling up on my arms and legs. Happy.

Join Me In The Water

I just loved this couple who were at West Palm Beach in Florida on Saturday, May 17th. At first, only he was in the ocean, then she followed and they held hands. I was there w/ my brother. More to follow.

Scent of Lime

For Earth Day, the apartment complex gave away plants. This is my new Mexican Lime tree from the Rio Grande Citrus Nursery. It flowers in the Spring and Sumer, followed by fruit.

Go Fish!

The Florida Marlins played a three game series vs. the Houston Astros, so we took a day trip to Space City. This was the last game, which the Marlins lost 5-1 but I took this picture in the top of the 2nd when it was tied 0-0.

E Unum Pluribus

I bought a great necklace (not pictured) in Grand Cayman in January 2008 with the intention of taking it apart and making many necklaces from the one. Pictured above is the latest Frankenstein's Monster necklace.

Feeling at home

Make-shift candle holder I made from a vase, seashells, and a candle. The shells are from West Palm Beach, Clearwater Beach, and Jamaica. The candle was part of a 24th birthday present from Naomi. All part of slowly turning my apartment in the hills of Texas into a beach cottage.

Come to my window

This is the view out my window of the patio and hill country, slightly obscured by Sydney.

Yarn in paradise

I've been doing alot of crocheting lately. Fred and Neo have been keeping me company. The square on the bottom is the palm tree pattern I came up w/, but most of the squares are much more simple.

Babette Update

The babette blanket is coming along. See above. I think it's about a 1/4 of the way there. Maybe 1/2, depending on how sick I get of these colors...

Happy St. Patrick's Day

I am sick on one of my all-time favorite holidays. This is the Vernor's ginger ale for me that Rod dyed w/ green food coloring in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

Seashell Art

These are the 8.5" x 11" seashell pics I'm going to put up in the bedroom above the headboard. I added the 4th column of 3 b/c it's a big wall. The seashells are from my New Year Eve's 2008 trip to Clearwater Beach, FL.

Babette Blanket

I started crocheting this blanket-to-be in February and have been working on it for about a month now (I did the math for you). Here is the Knitting Daily link so you can see what it's supposed to look like. Above, see the yarn I'm using. I want it to be beachy colors. More pics to come.
